a) 10% off shoes at Ward's Shoe Shops on production of a valid membership card. b) 15% off labour charges at Farmer's Garage, Smith Road, Matlock. c) 15% off Impsport products in their catalogue. d) Up to 40% off some ferry fares. A really useful ferry discount is now available to club members thanks to a company called Alternative Promotion, based in Weston Super Mare. Adge Last has used this service for many years – discounts tend to be in the region of 30 40% on a range of different crossings.
Before calling them, have all the details to hand: the crossing you want, your dates of travel and the vehicle & passenger details. Then call them (Monday to Friday office hours) with your request and they will get you a quote. You will then need to arrange payment and they will issue the tickets or a reference number.
Please be reasonable with this service don‘t make speculative calls - I usually have an idea of what the crossing would cost me from other sources so when they give me a price I can say yes or no immediately to save them from hanging around.
Alternative Promotion: 01934 824138
When you contact them it is important that you let them know that you are a cyclist from Matlock CC and have been given the contact by Adge Last.

Peter Sharkey has started a running club in Wirksworth, aptly named Wirksworth Running Club! So if you fancy keeping fit during the winter months by going out for a run then why not come along. The Club meets at Wirksworth Leisure Centre every Wednesday evening starting at 7pm. Runners are split into one of four groups according to ability and fitness, and following a stretching and warm up session runners can go on a number of runs varying between 2 and 8 miles. Since starting at the end of September the Club has attracted between 30 and 40 runners each week. If you do come along then wear some reflective kit, if you‘re planning on going on one of the longer runs, then you are advised to bring a small torch as well. Contact Peter on 01629 826585 for further info.
The club‘s venue code is 1002 and should be used whenever you access the Go-Ride web site to enter your skill, sprint or endurance times.

South Darley Headteacher, David Mayo-Braiden, never expected an award for his school, when in his enthusiasm to secure cycle safety training for his scholars he contacted Matlock Cycling Club to form an after school cycling training club just over a year ago. Imagine then his surprise and delight when the British Schools Cycling Association announced that South Darley C of E Primary had been awarded the "Dunlop Trophy". By this award, the British Schools Cycling Association recognises South Darley School as the premier establishment in raising cycling standards in whole of Great Britain during the past school year and it is believed that this is the first time that a primary school has been successful.
The trophy is awarded annually to the school that has the highest number of scholars in the country qualifying via the BSCA "Trix Awards". Training took place after school each Tuesday and supporting the Headteacher were Matlock CC volunteers, Tim Gould, Harry Gould and Chris Mottram. The volunteers commented that the children at South Darley had been so keen to learn new skills that it had been a great pleasure to instruct them.
The training recommences in Spring 2005 and maybe South Darley will again train the most children.
Additionally, the British Schools Cycling Association record the number of scholars successfully completing their tests on a County basis and Derbyshire had the highest number of scholars attaining their awards in 2003/4. This achievement was down to the efforts of Derbyshire Dales District Council's Sports Development Officer, Paul Goodley, who during the summer had enlisted Matlock CC to provide week long training at venues in Ashbourne, Wirksworth and Matlock where 57 youngsters gained a mixture of Bronze and Silver awards.
