13. Results of Club Events in 2000
Please note that, as we missed the subscription dead line by 2 days, we are no longer a member club of the BDCA. It seems sad that, after over 30 years of promoting events for the BDCA, the first year we did not promote, we are thrown out for a (minor) infringement. Where are our friends?
This means that only open BDCA events may be ridden.
IC means an inter-club race against Buxton CC. They ride our 10 mile time trial on Tuesday, 4th July and we ride their 10 mile time trial on Thursday, 5th July. A points system decides the winning club. We need as many riders as possible to ride both events. As an added bonus anyone riding at Buxton gets an extra 25 points, in addition to points gained in the event, for our club points competition. The event at Buxton is their 10 mile championship and so they are likely to turn out in force. Please ride both events if you possible can.
We are looking for new ideas to use on Thursday evenings at the clubroom starting rom the beginning of September. If you can offer to organise an evening or know of someone who would be willing to do so please let a member of the committee know.
We hope to organise Tuesday evening circuit training sessions at Starkholmes Gym, again starting in September. Details later.
Collect your copy from club or the whitish van.
Congratulations to all winners of trophies for the 1999 season. Please note that this year all trophies MUST be returned to club on or before Thursday, 30th November 2000.
Final Version of this year's club events is posted at club together with courses to be used.
We will be struggling to run the club events in the middle of July. In particular the events on Tuesday, 18th July,(10) Thursday, 20th July, (long hilly), and Tuesday, 25th July,(10) will not have the regular timekeepers available due to marriage (Danny‘s) and wandering around Brittany. If you could help with any or all of these events please let me know. Training can be provided.
This new trophy will be awarded to the lady with the fastest time in the club‘s 10 mile time trial championships on Tuesday, 11th July.
Every year the club club decides to support a different charity and any fund s raised from a variety of events will be donated the charity chosen for the particular year.
In 2000 the charity is Crossroads.
Crossroads is a registered charity that supports people who care for a physically or mentally disabled person of any age.
Its main objectives are:-
1) To recruit and provide Care Attendants:
to relieve stress in the family or or carer of the disabled person.
To avoid admission to hospital or residential care of the
disabled person shoul a breakdown or other failure occur in the
household.
2) To supplement and complement, no replace, existing statutory services = and to work closely with them.
3) To strive to maintain a high and professional standard of care.
The local scheme, which the club is supporting, started in 1987 in the Northern Dales, expanding South in 1995. It now covers from Edale and the Hope Valley in the North down to Sudbury and Doveridge. The service is open to carers of people of any age or disability, mental or physical. There is normally no charge made for the service, although if the need exceeds the available funding a waiting list can operate.Anyone wishing to know more about this organisation can contact the Scheme Manager at Newholme Hospital, Bakewell.
