Members get:-
a) 10% off shoes at Ward's Shoe Shops on production of a valid membership card. b) 15% off labour charges at Farmer's Garage, Smith Road, Matlock. c) 15% off Impsport products in their catalogue. d) Up to 40% off some ferry fares. A really useful ferry discount is now available to club members thanks to a company called Alternative Promotion, based in Weston Super Mare. Adge Last has used this service for many years discounts tend to be in the region of 30 40% on a range of different crossings.
Before calling them, have all the details to hand: the crossing you want, your dates of travel and the vehicle & passenger details. Then call them (Monday to Friday office hours) with your request and they will get you a quote. You will then need to arrange payment and they will issue the tickets or a reference number.
Please be reasonable with this service dont make speculative calls - I usually have an idea of what the crossing would cost me from other sources so when they give me a price I can say yes or no immediately to save them from hanging around.
Alternative Promotion: 01934 824138
When you contact them it is important that you let them know that you are a cyclist from Matlock CC and have been given the contact by Adge Last.
Thanks.

From September right through to February, your children (adults too) can ride Cyclo Cross on most Saturday afternoons locally and never be far from home. Matlock CC is one of the clubs that take it turns to organise the events over the Counties of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, where both boys and girls under 10 years of age start at 12 noon, those under 12 years start at 12-30 and those aged 12 to 15 years start at 13-00. All others start at 14-15.
So what do you have to do to get started?
1 You need any sort of cycle, most children use mountain bikes. Stabilisers can be on the cycle and parents are allowed to reasonably help such beginners. A helmet must be worn and clothing suitable for the day.
2 The children must sign on to an entry sheet (how else would the judges know who they were! ), and they receive an identification number to wear once entered. So it is essential that you get there early before the actual start times.
3 The courses are all small off road circuits for their sole use so there is no danger from other traffic or walkers. They are well marked with safety tape, usually mainly grass but will go up and down little hills if present and round trees too if they are there. Cornering skills improve the childrens safety long term.
So another reason to get there early is so that a little practice can be taken on the circuit.4 The simplest and easiest courses are for the Under 10s and the competition lasts for 8 to 10 minutes. Under 12s use the same circuits but could have more technicality added. They will compete for 12 to 15 minutes. The Under 14s and Under 16s will use parts of the Adults circuits and will compete for 25 minutes.
Adults compete on full circuits for 45 minutes plus one lap.
Any novice over 16 years old can try out the sport with the the under 16 year olds - but cannot have the youngsters prizes!
5 All the Under 10s and 12s get a prize when finishing! All finishers get League Points which by February will decide the Championships for the two counties for both boys and girls.
7 Each month the points gained by the Under 10s and 12s in the previous four events decide their Mini League positions and they will be issued with a certificate at a presentation at the next following event.
8 For the older children aged 12 to 15 years, the cost to ride is 4 each which provides 3rd party Insurance and a prize fund. All such riders start together but prizes and League Points are separate for boys and girls, with 12 and 13 year olds riding as the Under 14 Category and 14 and 15 year olds riding as Juveniles.
9 By Saturday evening, finishing positions and League Points are posted on the Internet.
If the children like the sport, they try not to miss events and in March there is an official Prize Evening when the overall prizes and trophies for all the age categories are presented. They could want to ride events out of the two counties on Sundays!

In this session you can : try to improve your Trix award ; start a Trix award : go for Gold. The second session will be at Thornbridge Outdoors at Great Longstone on 23rd September and introduce riders to cyclo cross. Please meet inside the grounds at 11.15. Parents may find it easier to park outside the gate. The entrance is on the narrow lane from Ashford to Great Longstone on the left hand side. We will show where to sign on, walk you round the course and check that you have everything you need. As you will see above, the under-10 race is at 12 noon, the under-12 races at 12.30 and the under-16 race at 13.00. The under-16 race costs 4 while the other two are free. Look forward to seeing you there.
