Club Subs
Club subs for 2005 are now due. These remain unchanged at Senior : £10, Family : £15, 18 - 23 : £5, Under - 18 : £1. Tony Holmes or Karen will gladly take your money. Members get:-
a) 10% off shoes at Ward's Shoe Shops on production of a valid membership card. b) 15% off labour charges at Farmer's Garage, Smith Road, Matlock. c) 15% off Impsport products in their catalogue. d) Up to 40% off some ferry fares. A really useful ferry discount is now available to club members thanks to a company called Alternative Promotion, based in Weston Super Mare. Adge Last has used this service for many years – discounts tend to be in the region of 30 40% on a range of different crossings.
Before calling them, have all the details to hand: the crossing you want, your dates of travel and the vehicle & passenger details. Then call them (Monday to Friday office hours) with your request and they will get you a quote. You will then need to arrange payment and they will issue the tickets or a reference number.
Please be reasonable with this service don‘t make speculative calls - I usually have an idea of what the crossing would cost me from other sources so when they give me a price I can say yes or no immediately to save them from hanging around.
Alternative Promotion: 01934 824138
When you contact them it is important that you let them know that you are a cyclist from Matlock CC and have been given the contact by Adge Last.

Ladies Rides
These rides go at a slow pace - 5mph uphill and 10 - 15 mph on the flat. They are around 1 to 3 hours in duration and meet at the clock tower in Hall Leys Park. The March date is in the diary while the April ride is on Sunday, 17th. Ring Dawn on 01629582300 or Karen on 01629760575 for a chat.
White Peak Marathon
Matlock Athletic Club have asked for our support in the running of this successful marathon along the Tissington and High Peak Trails. If possible they would like 6 volunteers : 2 riders to act as sweepers for the whole marathon (28x28 advised), 1 rider to act as a sweeper for the half marathon (downhill all the way!), 1 person to help at a feeding station (Mininglow?) and 2 recorders at the finish at the rugby club at Cromford. The date is Saturday, 21st May with a 10.00 start for both events. Its always nice to see other people suffer! Please ring 01629734996 if you would like to help.
Hathersage Triathlon.
Sunday 24th July 2005: Bruce Dawson is organizing the first ever Hathersage Hilly Triathlon based out of Hathersage open air swimming pool; 420m swim, 12mile bike, 3.5 mile (fell) run. This should be a competitive, but fun event and is also the BTA Derbyshire Championship Race. For more details follow the link from www.highpeaktri.org. If you don‘t want to compete, Bruce will need help marshalling the bike and run courses - all helpers will receive a goody bag including T-shirt etc. as received by the competitors. Call Bruce on 0777 912 7714 if you can help.
Every year the club club decides to support a different charity and any funds raised from a variety of events will be donated to the charity chosen for that particular year.
In 2004/5 the charity is the Edale Mountain Rescue
Several of us are likely to ride this hilly challenge event on August bank holiday weekend (Sunday), and although it may seem a long way off, the event is always oversubscribed early on with a maximum field of 600 riders. (Most of us failed to get an entry into the Fred Whitton Challenge in May and that was full in Feb!). The 2005 event is likely to be about 80 miles in length with a full route and entry forms available on the website at www.wildwales.net . Paul Rogers is able to provide some accommodation nearby at Betws-y-Coed for about £8/night so why not make a long weekend in this glorious part of Wales. Contact Paul on 01629 580446 for more details.
