A really useful ferry discount is now available to club members thanks to a company called Alternative Promotion, based in Weston Super Mare. Adge Last has used this service for many years – discounts tend to be in the region of 30 40% on a range of different crossings. Before calling them, have all the details to hand: the crossing you want, your dates of travel and the vehicle & passenger details. Then call them (Monday to Friday office hours) with your request and they will get you a quote. You will then need to arrange payment and they will issue the tickets or a reference number. Please be reasonable with this service don‘t make speculative calls - I usually have an idea of what the crossing would cost me from other sources so when they give me a price I can say yes or no immediately to save them from hanging around. Alternative Promotion: 01934 824138 When you contact them it is important that you let them know that you are a cyclist from Matlock CC and have been given the contact by Adge Last.

Club Auction.

Harry Gould thanks everyone who made the 2008 Auction such a success, especially Rachel Sharp, Robin Gould, Tony Holmes and those that attended and bid and those that put the very large range of goods for sale. The evening went very quickly and efficiently, most items were sold (there still a few lots left for late bids!) and the purchasers were satisfied with what they paid. The sale totalled £495.50 and an additional £5.50 cash was donated. Some sellers donated all their proceeds or more than their 10% commission to the Young Riders Fund and so raised if not the record amount for the YRF, a sum very close indeed to it. An actual amount to be published as soon as possible.

Coaching

Every 2nd Thursday is a coaching night, and if any member would like advice, or a particular topic covered, then they should let me or Roy Osment know at the beginning of the month. Our coaches would be informed, and will offer a consensus of opinion on the relevant Thursday.

This month we shall consider preparation for hill climbs, especially the National on Bank Road.

Club Charity

The 2008 club charity is the Derbyshire Air Ambulance. The main fund raising effort is the raffle at the club‘s Trophy Presentation Evening.Other donations gratefully received

BSCA Races In March

The East Midland Region Roller Championships take place at Forest Town on Saturday, 8th March. Entries, £5, should be sent to Stan Kalisz at 5, Tonbridge Mount, Wollaton, Nottingham NG8 2HR using a BSCA entry form that can be downloaded from www.bsca.org.uk. Ring Stan on 01159 137022 if in doubt. Roller racing is great fun. Your bike is clamped onto a set of rollers which are connected to a large board which has distance circle marked on it. Your bike makes an arrow turn. These events are very much come and try it events. Forest Town is just the other side of Mansfield. Ask Richard Thoday for the easiest way of getting there

Other BSCA Championships

The next BSCA championship is also at Forest Town on Saturday, 10th May starting at 10.00. This is the hard track championships. The track there is unique and can be ridden on any type of bike. Instead of the usual two bends at either end of the track it has four corners! This provided a safe track ideal for beginners. The entry fee is again £5 and entries should be on a BSCA entry form. Entries should close on Tuesday, 1st May. There are then two championships at Whitworth Park both on Saturday, 14th June. In the morning is the grass track and in the afternoon the mountain bike championships. Details later.
